Terrific Tracers
This is a fun tracing activity which helps set the foundation for future letter learning by getting children used to controlling writing utensils as well as spelling and penning their own name. Letter Knowledge, Beginner Writing, Fine Motor Skills 3 years to 5 years Post-its (or paper and scissors), a pen/pencil and highlighters To start, grab some post-its or something to write on that can be cut into pieces, like printer paper or, for a more colorful option, poster paper. Write each letter of your child's name on a single post-it or piece of paper using a pen or pencil. We recommend making this outline in all capital letters, because capital letters tend to be easier to tell apart than lowercase letters for children. Let your child put the letters together to spell their name! Once they've put their name together, let them trace over your writing with a highlighter to practice their own writing! For added fun and fine motor skill development, let your child retrace their name with various highlighter colors to make a rainbow! Having your little one trace their name on a consistent basis will really help develop their beginner writing skills. You may need to adjust this activity to fit your child’s needs! To increase difficulty, instead of just tracing their name, which most likely includes letters that they are somewhat familiar with, your child can try this activity with the entire alphabet! Even more, tracing a name written in lowercase letters can prove to be more challenging as they may be harder to tell apart than capital letters. Your child can also try writing their name without your outline! Reference: https://playtolearnpreschool.us/writing-our-names/
