Goofy Graphs

This fun activity helps children associate words with colors, develop their hand-eye coordination, and learn about numbers!Vocabulary, Fine Motor Skills, Numeracy 3 years to 5 years Fruit Loops (or String Beads), Toothpicks, and Playdough Here's a great way to get your child acquainted with bar graphs! To make the graph's base, we recommend stretching Playdough out into at least a half inch deep, two inch wide, and seven inch long strip. Stick at least five equally spaced toothpicks into the Playdough base. Use a little bit of Playdough to cover the sharp tips of the tooth picks! Optionally, multiple toothpicks can be attached together using Playdough to make the bars of the graph longer so that more Fruit Loops can be put on each bar. Have your little one separate a bowlful of Fruit Loops into groups based on their color and ask them what color each of the groups represents. This is a wonderful opportunity to teach and reinforce the names of colors! Then, have them place one color of Fruit Loops along each toothpick and count how many Fruit Loops are in each bar of the graph. These graphs turn out looking amazing and also double as decoration! Importantly, please be careful as materials involved in this activity may pose a choking hazard! You may need to adjust this activity to fit the needs of your little one! To make things a bit harder, you can ask your little one to create a shape using the graph, such as a "U" shape, "V" shape or straight ramp! An important note: if your child has any allergies to ingredients in Fruit Loops, then string beads can be used as an alternative. Using string beads instead of Fruit Loops may make for an easier cleanup and a more permanent decoration option as well! Reference: https://playtolearnpreschool.us/fruit-loop-graph/
