Threaded Letters
This activity use yarn and paper to help your little one practice their letter knowledge and build fine motor skills. Letter Knowledge, Beginner Writing Skills Piece of paper or notecard, hole puncher, thick yarn or shoelace Chose ten to fifteen letters from the alphabet. Most of these should be letters that your child is already very familiar with. A few of them should be ones that they are less comfortable with. This balance will give them a feeling of accomplishment, mixed in with a bit of challenge. Take a piece of paper or a set of notecards, punch holes in the shape of the letters you chose onto the paper or notecards. Give your little one a thick piece of yarn (or even a shoelace) and ask them to put it between each of the holes to recreate the letter as best as they can. Then, ask them what letters they made. For a bigger challenge: Have your child punch the holes for each letter. This will give them practice in not only recognizing the letter, but also recalling it without any hints. Use only lowercase letters, as these tend to be harder to tell apart than uppercase letters. Have them put the thread through entire words, instead of only letters. This will help them reinforce their vocabulary.
