Catching Colors
Grab a bunch of household items and/or toys. Try to find things that are colorful, so that you can have as many colors represented as possible in the handful of items you choose.
After you’ve gathered your colorful items, sit down with your little one(s). Pick out an item from the collection, and ask, “what color is this?” If they aren’t familiar with a certain color, teach them about the color’s name and what it looks like! You can even look to show them more examples of where they can find that particular color around the house to support their understanding of that color.
This is a fantastic opportunity to get your child(ren) familiar with color-related vocabulary that will be crucial for them to know as they start school.
Also, while this may seem like a super simple activity on the surface, you can really up the difficulty by choosing to point out colors that they might be unfamiliar with.
